LOCAL CAT DECLARES FORMAL WAR ON CUCUMBER LEFT ON KITCHEN FLOOR

Vertical launch reached an estimated four feet; cucumber offered no response and had, at no point, moved.

Hostilities erupted in a quiet Whisker Falls kitchen Wednesday evening when a resident orange cat named Gerald turned around, discovered a cucumber on the floor behind him, and left the ground entirely.

Eyewitnesses estimate Gerald achieved a vertical leap of nearly four feet from a standing start, executed a full mid-air rotation, and landed already running. The cucumber, sources confirm, did nothing.

"It had been there maybe ten seconds," said a member of the household, who had placed the cucumber on the floor "for reasons I now deeply regret." "He looked at it like it had personally betrayed him. Like they had history."

The cucumber, a standard grocery-store specimen, remained stationary throughout the encounter. At no point did it advance, retreat, or make any threatening gesture, largely because it was a cucumber.

Gerald retreated to the top of the refrigerator, where he established a forward observation post and monitored the vegetable for the next forty minutes. Attempts to remove the cucumber were met with what one witness called "a low growl usually reserved for the vacuum."

Household officials stressed that the incident was not repeated. "You only get one," the resident said. "We've read the warnings. You don't do the cucumber thing twice. It's not funny to him. He genuinely believed his life was in danger."

By nightfall an uneasy calm had settled over the kitchen. The cucumber was quietly removed and, per the household's statement, "will not be spoken of again." Gerald remained atop the refrigerator until well past midnight, guarding the airspace above a floor that no longer contained any threats.

"He's fine now," the resident added. "But he still checks that spot every time he walks past it. Just in case."

The whereabouts of the cucumber are unknown. This is a developing situation.
